The success of a website and its promotion resonates through the allegiance between the brand and the audience. This drives my work.
The Early Days
My career began in Queenstown, where I worked in a business partnership with a lawyer and an accountant. My role combined graphic design with bookkeeping, but I’d already built a strong technical foundation through two diplomas in Computing and Programming. My business partner was both a lawyer and a computer programmer, and I gained valuable insight working alongside him.
Moving into Design
Wanting to broaden my skills, I moved to Wellington and studied two more diplomas in Graphic Design and Web Design. This mix of technical training and creative learning shaped the way I approach design today: practical, balanced, and user-centred.
Building Experience
I joined the Ministry of Social Development as a Web Designer and later stepped into the role of Web Manager. It was a fast-paced environment with a heavy workload, where I managed a team of five and oversaw multiple projects, often more than five websites at once.
A Shift South
After having my first child, I returned south and joined Tait Communications as a Web Designer and Editor. Later, I worked with a hostel network as a Graphic and Web Designer for several years. These roles gave me a broad perspective across industries, from corporate to tourism.
Starting My Own Business
After being made redundant (thank you Covid), I saw it as the perfect moment to take the leap and start my own business. Freelancing gave me the freedom to combine years of technical and creative experience with the chance to work directly with clients.
Driven by Values
Outside of design, I’m deeply focused on living sustainably and caring for the environment. This focus naturally flows into my work. For me, coding and design aren’t just about aesthetics, they’re about efficiency. I design and build websites to run smoothly, load quickly, and avoid unnecessary digital “waste.” In short, performance and speed matter, because less energy use online means a lighter footprint overall.
